WHAT WAS THE IDEA THAT STARTED THE BRIDAL JOURNEY?
The Bridal Journey success didn’t come completely out of left field. Previously, I ran a blog with a friend called ‘SNOB’. This was before Instagram and it was very popular back in the day with a few million hits a month! After finishing up with SNOB I realised there wasn’t any cool / relatable wedding blogs out there that featured real brides. It wasn’t just a case of throwing things at a wall and seeing if they would stick. I knew what content would work from my years experience working on my previous blog. I knew what the audience needed and what they were looking for.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE KEY TO GROWING YOUR BRAND ONLINE?
I was strategic and wanting to grow it from the get go. I saw how female- driven brands and communities were created, and I implemented what I had learnt from that. A lot of strategy around The Bridal Journey is targeting women like myself, what do I care about and what do I like? I create content for myself, for my friends and it’s content I want to see and be inspired by.
WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION?
I think The Bridal Journey blends fashion, art and real brides to showcase weddings and events through a ‘real life’ lens.
FAVOURITE REAL WEDDING TO DATE?
It would have to be Lolita Jacobs, a stylist who wore a white mini shirt dress to her wedding in the South of France. It was iconic.
ADVICE TO BRIDES PLANNING A WEDDING IN 2020?
Hire a planner! Particularly in the climate of covid. I have seen my co-host on The You and Me Podcast, Laura (an event wedding planner and Stylist) mull over contracts, negotiate postponements and fees with suppliers etc.. I think it would be really difficult to navigate cancelling a wedding and postponing without the help of a planner. Save yourself the trouble!
BIGGEST PINCH YOURSELF MOMENT?
Working with Galia Lahav and huge overseas brands!
WORDS TO LIVE BY?
My number one tip is to trust your instincts. Tap into that gut feeling and follow it fearlessly. Sometimes we get too wrapped up in our thoughts and forget to be guided by our intuition, which can be invaluable.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE BRIDAL JOURNEY?
The You and Me Podcast is going to be big! It’s fresh with only 12 episodes out but I think it’s certainly going to be the “go-to” for brides planning their special day.
